Be informed about Avian Influenza!

Recently in the news avian influenza, sometimes called the bird flu, has become a topic of conversation. Avian Influenza is caused by viruses that can infect poultry & wild birds, especially waterfowl. The highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) is also sometimes known as H5N1. This strain poses an extremely low risk to people and there is no food safety concern, according to many sources including the Minnesota Department of Health, as well as the USDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
We want our customers to know that it is safe to visit our farm, to purchase our birds and to consume our gamebird products. We have taken many precautions to keep our birds, our employees and our customers safe. Some of those precautions include being a participant in the National Poultry Improvement Plan where we do extensive testing of our birds throughout the year, and we work closely with the veterinarians at the Minnesota Board of Animal Health. We voluntarily participate in a biosecurity program that helps protect us from potential outbreaks by limiting traffic on our farm, having procedures where employees wear different footwear for different areas and maintaining/cleaning our equipment.
Our goal is to provide education regarding avian influenza to eliminate any fear or misunderstandings. Please reach out to us if you have any questions!
